Pinelands Ratepayers & Residents Association
The mission of the Pinelands Ratepayers & Residents Association (PRRA) is to continue to make Pinelands a desirable place to live, work and visit. The PRRA represents the interests of the entire community of Pinelands.
The PRRA works to promote the neighborhood’s community cohesiveness, including its distinct historical character, by liaising with local government officials, providing information about the neighborhood to members and engaging members to gather and promote the ideas and interests of the entire community.
The PRRA chose not to hold public meetings over the past months. The Exco continue to meet via zoom. In lieu of the “third wave” the PPRA have decided to try and host a General Meeting via zoom. The proposed date is Wednesday, 14 July 2021 at 7pm.
The PRRA support the formation of a Community Improvement District (CID) in Pinelands to address the safety and service delivery concerns. A CID offers supplementary services set to enhance the physical and social environment of an area.
Despite significant public opposition, authorities have granted the rezoning for development of the River Club. The Observatory Civic Association has lodged an application for judicial review at the Cape Town High Court.
Renew The Elsieskraal River held their 3rd #AdoptATree event in May 2021 and planted 70 trees. As with previous tree plantings, the Pinelands community members supported the initiative and came to plant trees on behalf of adopters who couldn’t be present.
NETwork assists people with building networks, growing their skills & careers, & generating income. NETwork looks at new ways to proactively assist local homeless community members, & provides emergency food & social support when needed.
The Pinelands Heritage Protection Overlay Zone is identified in the Municipal Planning Bylaw for protection in order to retain the special characteristics and aesthetic cohesiveness, as laid out above, in perpetuity.
